I practice yoga that is very, very mellow. The focus is relaxation and rejuvenation. Many of the postures take place lying on the floor and are held for a long time so the body has a chance to let go. I like to do a little each night before I go to sleep for obvious reasons.
This is fine in the summer when temperatures are warm. In the winter lying on the floor late in the evening is not very inviting. I looked into getting one of those long hot-pads like massage therapists use, but discovered they are a bit expensive. I did not want to invest a lot into something I was not sure would make a difference in my practice.
Then I discovered an old heating pad, about one foot square. Nah, that’s not enough to make a difference… What the heck, I may as well try it. It worked! Just having a warm spot under the small of my back is enough to get me practicing my yoga in the cool seasons.
What are the other warm spots that make a difference in our lives?
- A handshake: it takes an average of three hours of continuous interaction to develop the same level of rapport that you can get with a single handshake
- A hug. Need I say more?
- Telling someone “Nice Job“, then sharing one specific think you thought went well
- Saying hello to another person who looks a bit lost, especially at a networking meeting
- Hot cocoa, tea or soup
